Baz Luhrmannís much talked about 3D adaptation of F Scott Fitzgeraldís classic The Great Gatsby has been delayed until July next year. It was scheduled for release in December.

The December release date would have seen Luhrmannís film competing with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the first Jack Reacher film (based on Lee Childís novels), starring Tom Cruise. According to Warner Bros the filmís release date has been changed to "ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible."

The LA Times has speculated that the new release date gives Luhrmann and extra seven months to put the finishing touches on the 3D effects and finalise an all star soundtrack to go with the film.
