Stars are heading to the Cote d’Azur for the iconic Cannes Film Festival, which this year opens with Woody Allen’s Café Royal.

To celebrate the start of the film festival a collection of photographs has been curated from some of the greatest films of the 20th and 21st century. Many of them have been taken during pauses in filming. From actors to directors, each individual is artistically captured in these behind the scene photographs.

They characterise the time and place, from Andy Warhol with his first anchored camera in 1964 to Marilyn Monroe on the set of The Misfits.
