Clueless twenty years on

On June 29, 2015

We named it as one of our top ten teen movies. Let’s face it; Clueless remains one of the most enduring movies of the 90s. We can’t quite believe it’s been 20 years since this cult classic, starring Alicia Silverstone, was first released.

Will we ever get tired of watching Cher navigate Beverly Hills high school? It is one of the most streamed movies on Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes even twenty years after its release. Inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless is an everlasting pop culture staple.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary it seems the film is about to hit Broadway as a stage show. Director Amy Heckerling confirmed the news with Entertainment Tonight: “I’ve written the, what they call the book and it’s a jukebox musical.”

Heckerling admitted casting would be the difficulty. “Well casting - that's like going to be like the main problem.” Who could replace Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd?
