Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) stars as American poet Emily Dickinson, the first recognised American woman poet.

The film begins during her school days and moves to her final fifteen years when she lived life as a recluse not venturing out of her house and often having conversations with others through doors.

She wrote over 2,000 poems and more than 1,000 letters, most were burnt at her request after her death.

Jennifer Ehle who played Elizabeth Bennet opposite Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice stars as Vivien, Emily's sister.

The film is released in the UK on April 7 and in Australia in June.
