Emily Blunt looks perfect in the first released photograph of her starring as Mary Poppins in the remake to be released in time for Christmas 2018.

It will be over fifty years (1964) since the original, starring Julie Andrews, was first released. Based on the popular books by P.L. Travers, first published in 1934, Mary Poppins Returns is likely to appeal to a whole new generation of fans.

Colin Firth will star as William Weatherall Wilkins, the president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.
Joining Firth and Blunt is Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator and star of the Broadway hit Hamilton), who will play Jack the lamplighter a new role created for the film, perhaps replacing the role of chimney sweep made famous by Dick Van Dyke. Don’t worry Van Dyke is returning but as the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank instead.

The new film will be a follow up to the original with Jane and Michael Banks now adults. Ben Wishaw (Paddington Bear) plays Michael Banks and Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island) Jane Banks. The synopsis reads:

"In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives."
