Film Review: Blended

On June 12, 2014

By Sophia Whitfield

Blended sees the pairing of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore following their previous successful films, The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates. Directed by Frank Coraci, who previously collaborated with Sandler and Barrymore on The Wedding Singer and also directed Sandler in the hit comedies The Waterboy and Click, Blended is a colourful production full of slapstick humour.

After a disastrous blind date single parents Lauren (Drew Barrymore) and Jim (Adam Sandler) agree that they never want to see each other again. However after they both sign up for the same holiday they find themselves thrown together in Africa with five children between them.

The environment means they can never quite escape each other. The holiday has been organised for ‘blended’ families to find common ground. Lauren and Jim have accidentally fallen into a situation neither wants to be in.

Much is made of the younger woman with the older man and the unique difficulties that come with children not wanting to bond with step parents. All is carried off in good humour to the backdrop of the African landscape.

Blended is a film that promises light entertainment and delivers. With the colder weather and rainy weekends ahead this is a film the family would enjoy.

Blended is released in cinemas across Australia today.
