Film Review: Jersey Boys

On July 3, 2014

By Sophia Whitfield

After the success of Jersey Boys, the Tony award-winning musical, on Broadway and in the West End it has finally arrived on our screens. Featuring the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons the stage musical has had continued success, now in its eighth year on Broadway.

Directed by Clint Eastwood, the cast comprise predominantly of stage actors who have been in the musical. John Lloyd Young reprises his Tony award-winning role as Frankie Valli on screen, with Christopher Walken adding some star power as lovable mobster Gyp DeCarlo.

The film looks at the back story of the four members of The Four Seasons, all of whom grew up on the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey. With early connections to the mob, three friends join together to create a magical sound. Joined by singer song writer Bob Gaudio (Erich Bergen) they begin their mission to break into the music industry.

This is the story of how Frankie Valli tried to juggle family life with touring on the road. Set to the backdrop of classic songs, you will find yourself toe tapping to the many memorable tunes such as Sherry, Walk Like a Man and Who Loves You.

Jersey Boys is a must see at the cinema where you can enjoy the surround sound and big screen. Treat yourself!

Jersey Boys is out today in cinemas across Australia.
