He Said She Said by Erin Kelly

On May 12, 2017

By Sophia Whitfield

A tense, compulsive read, He Said She Said will keep you guessing until the last pages.

In 1999 Laura is at a festival in Cornwall with her boyfriend Kit to watch the total eclipse of the sun. It is the first time Kit has shared the experience with Laura. But later that night the euphoria is gone after Laura witnesses a rape. Horrified by what she has seen she asks Kit to call the police. As a witness Laura speaks out for Beth, the woman at the centre of the crime.

Years later Laura and Kit marry but live in fear. They have hidden their identities and attempt to keep to themselves being careful to never be caught on camera or on film in case the past catches up with them.

The story oscillates between 1999 when the rape occurred and 2015 with Laura married and expecting twins. Her pregnancy exacerbates Laura’s paranoia and her feeling that something terrible is about to happen. Towards the end of her pregnancy Kit leaves to go and watch another eclipse, filling Laura with impending doom.

Kelly is the author of The Poison Tree and The Burning Air. She keeps up the tension in He Said She Said creating a thrilling read. You can buy the book in Australia here and in the UK here.
