We are rather partial to films about writers. All that angst and self importance makes for an interesting character. Who better to capture it then Jason Schwartzman, the darling of indie films.

Listen Up Philip is a literary look at the triumph of reality over the human spirit. Anger rages in Philip (Jason Schwartzman) as he awaits the publication of his sure-to-succeed second novel. He feels pushed out of his adopted home city by the constant crowds and noise, a deteriorating relationship with his photographer girlfriend Ashley (Elisabeth Moss), and his indifference to promoting his own work. When Philip’s idol Ike Zimmerman (Jonathan Pryce) offers his isolated summer home as a refuge, he finally gets the peace and quiet to focus on his favourite subject — himself.

Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The One I Love), Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, Big Eyes) and Jonathan Pryce (The Salvation, Glengarry Glen Ross) star in this pitch black comedy about a misanthropic novelist played by indie darling, Jason Schwartzman (Bored to Death, Rushmore).

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2014 Locarno International Film Festival.

Listen Up Philip is the third film from American director Alex Ross Perry. His two previous films, Impolex (2009)and The Colour Wheel (2011), were international festival hits.

Listen up Philip plays in Melbourne and Sydney next week.
