Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman are set to star in a BBC feature-length adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic Esio Trot. The film will be adapted by Richard Curtis along with his The Vicar of Dibley  co-writer Paul Mayhew-Archer.

Dustin Hoffman will play the role of the lovelorn Mr Hoppy, in love with his neighbour Mrs Silver. But Mrs Silver’s heart belongs to her beloved Alfie the tortoise.

Mr Hoppy wishes he could become a tortoise.  Until one day he finds a way to win Mrs Silver's heart, with the help of a little magic and some cabbage.

Filming will begin in London in spring 2014.
