Murder on the Orient Express is one of Agatha Christie’s most famous novels featuring the enigmatic detective Hercule Poirot. A remake of the original 1974 film adaptation is on its way with Kenneth Branagh set to direct and star as Hercule Poirot.
“Christie’s Murder is mysterious, compelling, and unsettling,” Branagh said. “I’m honoured to have this fantastic group of actors bring these dark materials to life for a new audience.”
Joining him in the all-star cast is Judi Dench, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer and Johnny Depp.
First published in 1934, the novel is set on the most famous train in the world. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside.
Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.
The 1974 film adaptation of the novel starred Sean Connery, Vanessa Redgrave and Ingrid Bergman and received much acclaim.
