Married by Christmas by Scarlett Bailey

All Anna Carter wants is the perfect Christmas Eve wedding. Since the age of nine Anna has been planning her perfect Christmas wedding complete with reindeer and sleigh, but a sudden revelation by her husband to be puts her Christmas Eve wedding in jeopardy.

Determined to preserve the wedding she has worked so hard to create Anna embarks on a campaign to save her dream wedding.

Anna flees Buckinghamshire for the bright lights of New York in pursuit of her fiancé’s showgirl wife, a woman by the name of Charisma Jones who Tom, Anna’s fiancé, married in Vegas years before in an act of drunken stupidity.

After Tom’s revelation, Anna immediately feels the need to seek out this Charisma Jones in order for the marriage to be annulled allowing her picture perfect wedding to come to fruition. With only a week to go until the wedding, there is urgency to Anna’s quest. She must get married on Christmas Eve, her entire wedding plan centres around this one-day of the year.

Anna is a woman used to being in control, famous for her lists and her ability to organise anyone and everything. She now finds herself sitting on a plane to New York, alone and with no plan for how to locate the infamous Charisma Jones. She soon realises that a young man with a rock god image is sitting next to her, a man she once dated. It was the worst date of her life. While Anna is uptight and highly-strung, the whole scenario amuses Miles. He has also impulsively got on the plane to New York after being asked to audition for a popular band that recently lost their lead singer.

The two of them arrive in New York at the busiest time of the year with no accommodation booked. Together they decide to share what seems to be the last room in the city that is available. Miles takes the couch, while Anna has the bed. As Miles awaits his audition he becomes embroiled in Anna’s quest to find Charisma Jones.

Back at home a devastated Tom feels he has betrayed Anna by not going to New York with her. Liv, Anna’s sister, if left to finish up all the last minute details for Anna’s wedding, including going to her wedding fitting and supporting Tom through his despair. Finally unable to cope anymore Tom and Liv get on a plane to follow Anna and they all meet up in New York.

Scarlett Bailey has written an entertaining light-hearted Christmas read. Her previous book is The Night Before Christmas.
