It's hard to keep up with Ricky Gervais. Earlier this year he dropped hints that David Brent: Life on The Road had started filming. Famously active on Twitter he showed images of himself driving around Slough looking for filming venues.
The new film follows Brent 12 years after he left Wernham Hogg Paper Company at the conclusion of The Office. He is now a travelling salesman, chasing his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour with his band, ‘Foregone Conclusion’.
The film is scheduled to hit UK and Australian cinemas in August but Netflix has picked up world rights, with the film premiering on the service in 2017. Gervais seems delighted as he announced the deal:
"This is exciting news and this is top-secret, so I’m going to say it now. Netflix have bought out the rest of the world again, so everyone’s going to see it."
"Which is great for me, because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it in cinemas."
Gervais is no stranger to Netflix, his most recent film Special Correspondents, that co-starred Eric Bana, premiered on Netflix back in April.
