One minute with Gabrielle Tozer

On February 4, 2014

Gabrielle Tozer is a senior editor, journalist and copywriter who has edited, sub-edited and written for several magazines, newspapers and anthologies throughout the past decade. In addition to Gabrielle's work on Dolly, Girlfriend, Cosmopolitan, DisneyGiRL, Bride to Be, Mamamia and FamilyFun, she has also written for creative journals such as GOfish and Take It As Red. Born and bred in regional New South Wales, Gabrielle now works and lives in the heart of Sydney. Her first book, The Intern, has just been released.

Before I was an author I... was a magazine journalist, copywriter and professional Twitter addict (okay, I’m still all those things). I’m a slashie from way back.

When I am not writing I like to... binge-watch television shows, have Saturday-afternoon power naps, hunt down Sydney’s tastiest hot chips and lose myself in the ever-growing collection of books taking over my bedside table.

When my publisher accepted The Intern, my first novel, I ... burst into tears in the hallway at work, then phone-stalked my husband, parents and best friend to tell them the news.

My inspiration for The Intern came from ... my nerdy little life growing up in regional suburbia and my cliché (but necessary) move to the big smoke to pursue a career in journalism. Also, my years as a journalist and editor, as well as meeting countless interns and work experience students, have proven to be rather inspiring…

The Intern is about ... a dorky but loveable first-year uni student called Josie Browning, who accidentally finds herself in a competition to nab the top intern spot at one of the country’s hottest titles, Sash magazine. Cut to: lots of craziness, awkwardness and hilarity (hopefully!).

Thanks for having me!
