Philip Pullman’s epic trilogy, His Dark Materials (The Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass) is being adapted for TV. It follows the coming of age of two children Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry as they explore a series of parallel universes.
A second season has already been commissioned before the first one goes to air. Both the first and second season will be eight episodes long and filming of the first season has commenced in Wales. The BBC are producing the series with HBO on board to distribute outside of the UK.
Written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), the series is directed by Tom Hooper (Les Miserables).
