On Christmas morning many years ago, I tore off the wrapping on a present from my grandmother and discovered a beautifully-illustrated hardback copy of this classic. I adore the story of this family of women living in New England and struggling to stay afloat during the Civil War, but it was Jo who captured my heart. A tomboy (like me) who was clumsy (also like me) and adored reading and writing (ditto!), Jo knew exactly who she was at the age of 15. Her strength and determination were inspiring - and all these years later, I find her absolutely unforgettable.
