If you saw Legally Blonde you will remember Kyle the UPS guy. Steve Danielsen was the understudy for this unforgettable role. It is this performance that led to his current casting as Fiyero in Wicked.

Danielsen studied Performing Arts at Monash University before discovering his passion for musical theatre. He began his career in television with roles on a number of well-loved Australian dramas including Offspring, Homicide and Blue Heelers, recently appearing in the Dr Blake Mysteries. But Danielsen’s passion has always been for musical theatre and he has worked hard to achieve his goals.

After performing in Xanadu he got the musical theatre bug and was determined to realise his dreams of performing on stage. After being turned down at auditions he pursued further training to finally obtain the roles he sought.
Heading for the bright lights of New York, Danielsen studied dance and voice furthering his education in the theatre by taking in every possible show on Broadway. It is on Broadway that he first saw and fell in love with Wicked, citing the "beautiful story" as the drawcard for this musical. Set in a fantasy world, Danielsen says Wicked audiences always walk away with a smile.

On his return to Melbourne Danielsen landed the role of understudy for Kyle, the UPS guy, in Legally Blonde and has just returned from Auckland and Manila where he has been performing as Fiyero in Wicked. He is looking forward to continuing his performances for audiences in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. As he continues his career in musical theatre he looks forward to further roles on the stage as more bestselling musicals make their way from Broadway to Australia.

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin), Wicked is the winner of 90 awards. It has won a Grammy, three Tony Awards and six Helpmann Awards including an award for ‘Best Musical’.

The Melbourne season of Wicked opens on Saturday May 10 at The Regent Theatre and will be followed by shows in Brisbane and Sydney.
