Steven Spielberg is set to direct Roald Dahl’s The BFG for Disney. The live-action film will be released in cinemas in 2016.
First published in 1982, The BFG tells the tale of a lovable, dream-hunting giant and Sophie, the little girl who first spots him through the window of the orphanage where she lives.
Every night, when the world is sleeping, big gruesome giants guzzle up whoppsy-whiffling humans. The BFG is a nice and jumbly giant; he is the only big friendly giant in Giant country.
All the other giants are big bonecrunching brutes, and now the BFG and his friend Sophie must stop them guzzling up little human beans - with some help from Her Majester, the Queen.
The story was previously adapted as an animated TV film in 1989.
“The BFG has enchanted families and their children for more than three decades. We are honoured that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story,” said Spielberg in a statement.
Included in the cast is Downton Abbey's Penelope Wilton, who will be playing the Queen and Rebecca Hall, will playing Mary, the Queen's maid.
Mark Rylance is set to play the BFG. The actor is known for his roles on stage and on screen, including Thomas Cromwell in the recent BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall.
