Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones, published in 2006, has been awarded a raft of awards including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

This screen adaptation, starring Hugh Laurie, looks quite brilliant.

The film, directed by New Zealander Andrew Adamson and shot on location in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, will be released in October 2013.
